Grace Ellen Buckle

Identified on the album page as 'Grace Ellen Buckle,' this is probably Ellen Grace Mary Buckle, born in 1862. The daughter of John and Ellen Buckle, she was baptised at Ashperton in Herefordshire on 25 March 1862. According to the 1871 census, her father was a 'Magistrate of the County of Hereford' and 'Vicar of Stretton Grandison with Ashperton.' Living at the Vicarage in Ashperton, the family comprised Grace, her younger sister Susan Caroline (born 1863), their father John, and their step-mother Hester Eliza (née Wade-Gery). John's first wife Ellen Elizabeth (née Hopton) had died in 1867 and he had remarried in 1870.

Grace never married. She appears on the 1891 census, aged 29, still living with her family at the Vicarage in Ashperton. Among the household's three servants is Ann Robertson, aged 47, from Scotland. Described on the census as an 'Attendant - domestic servant,' twenty years later when the 1911 census is taken, she and Grace are joint heads of a small household at Merton in Surrey and described as living on 'Private Means.'

Grace died, aged 71, on 29 November 1934 at Woking in Surrey.
