George Barrett

George Barrett

A Woodburytype portrait of the actor George Edward Barrett (1849-1894), seen here as Ben Chibbles in 'Hoodman Blind', a melodrama by H.A. Jones and Wilson Barrett (George's brother) that played at the Princess's Theatre in London in 1885. A review that appeared in The Times on 19 August 1885 panned the production, mentioning 'the triteness and weakness of the central motive' though George Barrett 'as a kind-hearted blacksmith' apparently 'won distinction'.

Photographed by Herbert Rose Barraud of London and published by Carson and Comerford in November 1885.
