Sir James Jackson (1790-1871) was the third son of Colonel George Jackson (1761-1805) of North Nayo. Engisn 83 foot 29 October 1806; served in the Peninsula 1809-1814 and at Waterloo; served in India and Arabia 1819-1826; major 6 dragoon guards 1827; lieutenant-colonel 2 March 1839 to 21 May 1850; commander-in-chief Cape of Good Hope 1854-1859; colonel of 6 dragoons 17 July 1860 and of 1 dragoon guards 21 January 1868 to death; general 6 February 1865; K.H. 1837; K.C.B. 5 February 1856; G.C.B. 20 March 1865. Died Westwood, Manchester 31 December 1871.
