General Sir Charles Gore

Born Hon. Charles Stephen Gore on 26 December 1793, his father was Sir Arthur Saunders Gore, 2nd Earl of Arran.

He revived the fighting traditions of the family by taking a distinguished part in the Peninsular War. He was present at the storming of Ciudad Rodrigo and Badajoz before completing his eighteenth year; had one horse killed under him at Quatre Bras and three at Waterloo.

He married Sarah Rachel Fraser, daughter of James Fraser, on 13 May 1824.

He was invested as a Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath (G.C.B.) and as a Knight of the Hanoverian Order (K.H.). He was Colonel of the 5th Regiment of Foot and Lieutenant-Governor of the Chelsea Hospital.

General Hon. Sir Charles Gore K.C.B. and K.H. died on 4 September 1869. He was survived by his wife, two daughters and three sons.
