Four men on the Isle of Bute

A carte-de-visite portrait of four chaps on holiday at Rothesay on the Isle of Bute, photographed against a studio backdrop painted to suggest the deck of a ship. The addition of a few ropes makes the illusion rather more convincing than was usual with this type of portrait.

Photographed by J. Adamson and Son of Rothesay.
