Eduard Hörnstein

The photographer who took this portrait of obscure Austrian actor Eduard Hörnstein found an ingenious use for an old window frame and some lace curtains. With the addition of a trestle table covered with an old piece of cloth, the actor appears to be smoking his pipe and reading his newspaper at an open window. Simple, naive and surprisingly effective.

Photographed by Max Halbreiter of Vienna.
