Countess of Verulam

A carte-de-visite portrait of Lady Verulam (1825-1886).

Born Elizabeth Joanna Weyland on 6 July 1825, she was the daughter of Major Richard Weyland and Charlotte née Johnstone. She was christened on 28 July 1825 at All Souls in Marylebone, London. On 12 September 1844 she married James Walter Grimston, who succeeded his father as 2nd Earl of Verulam the following year. The couple had six children.

Lady Verulam died, aged 80, on 5 July 1886 at Gorhambury, St. Albans.
