A carte-de-visite portrait of Captain George Skene Hallowes of the 25th (the King’s Own Borderers) Regiment of Foot.

According to Hart’s Army List (1860), Hallowes joined the army as an Ensign on 16 February 1849. He was promoted Lieutenant on 21 October 1851 and became a Captain on 10 September 1858.

According to a website devoted to the genealogy of the Hallowes family, he was born on 26 August 1830 and eventually retired from the army on 14 August 1881 with the honorary rank of Major-General. He married Lucy Anne Hope on 9 August 1870 and fathered nine children. He died at Hogarth Road in Kensington on 4 May 1911.
