Captain Arthur Trevor Leslie


A carte-de-visite portrait of Captain Arthur Trevor Leslie of the 3rd Regiment of Foot (The Buffs).

Born in 1847, he was the son of the Rt. Rev. Charles Leslie and his wife Louisa Mary née King. His father was the Bishop of Kilmore, Elphin and Ardagh in Ireland.

He joined the army as an Ensign on 15 May 1867, was promoted Lieutenant on 15 December 1869, Captain on 6 December 1875 and Major on 20 February 1882. According to Hart’s Army List for 1886: ‘Major Leslie served with the Buffs throughout the operations in the Malay Peninsula in 1875-1876, including the actions of the 4th and 20th January and 4th February (Medal with Clasp)’.

On 9 June 1885 the London Gazette recorded that Major Arthur Trevor Leslie had been placed on retired pay on account of ill-health. He died, aged 39, the following year at Cootehill in Ireland.
