A carte-de-visite portrait of Captain Allan Shafto Adair (1836-1902) of the 13th Light Infantry.

Born on 20 December 1836, Allan Shafto Adair was the son of Alexander Adair and Harriet Eliza née Atkinson. He is listed in Hart's Army List of 1860, a Lieutenant in the 13th Regt. of Light Infantry. He served in the Indian campaign and was present at Azimghur.

Captain Adair married Georgiana Sarah Turnbull and had two children. He died on 26 Dec 1902 in Plymouth Tongham, near Aldershot.
