A topographical carte-de-visite showing a view of the town of Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire.

The photograph shows the hotel run by Mr John K. Fowler on Market Square. According to the 1861 census, Mr Fowler, aged 43, was a ‘Hotel Keeper, Wine Merchant [and] Farmer occupying 200 acres of land [and] employing 13 men and [illegible] boys’. Also present on the night of the census were his wife Mary, their two sons and seven daughters.
