Anne Charton-Demeur with harp


The French mezzo-soprano Anne Charton-Demeur was born at Saujon on 5 March 1824. Noted by Berlioz for the warmth, delicacy and rare beauty of her voice, she sang the title role in the première of his Béatrice et Bénédict (1862) and Dido in his Les troyens à Carthage (1863). She died in Paris on 30 November 1892.
