Alice and the Dormouse

Alice and the Dormouse

A Woodburytype showing Dorothy d'Alcourt as the Dormouse and Phoebe Carlo as Alice in an adaptation of 'Alice in Wonderland' produced at the Prince of Wales's Theatre in 1887. Written by Savile Clarke with music by Walter Slaughter, advertisements called it 'a musical dream play in two acts [...] founded on Lewis Carroll's delightful stories'. It was only presented at matinee performances so presumably it was aimed principally at children.

Photographed by Herbert Rose Barraud and published by Carson and Comerford in 1887.
