Unidentified sitter

A carte-de-visite portrait of an unidentified man.

Photographed by Constable of Brighton.

According to David Simkin's excellent website Sussex PhotoHistory, William Constable (1783-1861) was Brighton's first commercial photographer.

William Constable died on 22 December 1861 at 16 Egremont Place, Brighton, leaving an estate valued at £1500.

After his death, his studio was taken over by his two nieces: Caroline Constable (1803-1883) and Eliza Constable (1807-1873).
