A monk at Sanremo

A carte de visite portrait of a monk.

An inked inscription verso in a period hand reads: 'One of three [illegible] monks at San Remo. He was most devoted during the cholera & is an object of deep love and reverence among all classes. Saw him first in church on Thursday March 4 1869.'
