The Downey studio in Newcastle

A carte-de-visite showing two coachmen and a carriage waiting outside the studio of William and Daniel Downey in Eldon Square, Newcastle-upon- Tyne. Framed photographs can be seen in the ground-floor windows.

Built between 1825 and 1840 to designs by John Dobson, Eldon Square originally consisted of three terraces facing a central square but today only the east terrace remains.

Photographed by William and Daniel Downey of Newcastle and London.
