Charles Orton

Charles Orton

A carte-de-visite portrait of Charles Orton, eldest brother of Arthur Orton, a butcher from Wapping who earned notoriety as 'The Tichborne Claimaint.'

Although his name was mentioned during Arthur Orton's civil and criminal trials as someone to whom the Tichborne Claimant had regularly been sending money, Charles Orton was never called as a witness.

On 10 June 1874, several months after his brother's conviction for perjury, the Daily Telegraph published 'a communication extending to three columns from a trustworthy correspondent embodying a statement by Charles Orton, brother of Arthur Orton, who signs his name, and clears up many interesting points in the trial.'
