The comic actors Paul Bedford and J.L. Toole (John Lawrence Toole) dressed as 'Tosser' and 'Pitcher' in William Brough and Andrew Halliday’s one-act farce The Area Belle, which opened at the Adelphi Theatre on 7 March 1864.
