Abel de Pujol


A carte-de-visite portrait of the artist Abel de Pujol (1785-1861).

Alexandre Denis Abel de Pujol was born at Valenciennes on 30 January 1785. He was a pupil of David. He painted the ceiling of the great staircase in the Louvre as well as the Gallery of Diana at Fontainebleau and the ceiling of the Bourse in Paris. A member of the Institute, he was made an officer of the Legion of Honour.

He died in Paris on 29 September 1861.

His surname was Abel de Pujol; his forenames were Alexandre Denis.
