'Zamba verdadera'

'Zamba verdadera'

A pencilled inscription verso in a period hand gives the title. Under the caste system of Spanish colonial America, the word 'zambo' was a racial term for the children of Amerindian and African parents. Today, 'zambo' refers to all people with significant amounts of both African and Amerindian ancestry, though it is frequently considered pejorative.
