'The Mikado'

'The Mikado'

A Woodburytype showing a scene from the original production of The Mikado, which opened on 14 March 1885 at the Savoy Theatre in London, where it ran for 672 performances, the second longest run for any work of musical theatre and one of the longest runs of any theatre piece up to that time.

The three performers seen here as 'The Three Little Maids' are Sybil Grey as 'Peep Bo', Leonora Braham as 'Yum Yum' and Jessie Bond as 'Pitti Sing'.

An inked inscription on the album page dates the photograph to August 1885.

Photographer unidentified.
