'Our Babe'

'Our Babe'


A cabinet card portrait of a baby in a double-lidded coffin. The first lid, which is bolted down, has a glass panel for viewing the remains of the deceased baby. The second lid, which would have been secured prior to interment. can be seen to the right and has an ornately carved metal plaque inscribed 'Our Babe'.

An inked inscription verso in a twentieth-century hand reads 'Grandma Selma's baby'.
