'Garibaldian padre'

An inked inscription verso in a fine period hand identifies the sitter as a 'Garibaldian Padre'. Beneath this a later hand has added 'Friar Ugo Bassi' [written in Biro] but the man in this portrait bears no resemblance to Bassi, nor is he wearing the sort of habit that Bassi wore.
